Hoyt Bowers Award for Excellence in Casting

Julie Ashton is an Emmy-nominated casting director and the founder of Julie Ashton Casting. Casting Society previously honored Julie with seven Artios Award wins for her work on the longest-running scripted original series on Netflix, Big Mouth, and the perennial favorite Bob's Burgers, recently renewed by FOX through 2029. Julie has been recognized with twenty-four additional Artios Award nominations for series including Central Park (Apple TV), 2 Broke Girls (CBS), and Partners (CBS). In addition, Julie was recognized three times as the Animation Voiceover Casting Director of the Year at the Heller Awards in the years 2022, 2024 and 2025. She received her Emmy nomination in 2023 for Outstanding Casting for a Live Action Program for her work on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (Disney+).

Ashton began her career assisting legendary casting directors Mike Fenton (a CSA founder/president) and Judy Taylor at Fenton/Taylor & Associates. She was then tasked with building the talent and casting department from the ground up for Saban Entertainment, later becoming the Head of Casting for the Fox Family Channel, where she was the casting director on dozens of television series and movies. This experience was instrumental in the launch of her own company. 

Julie Ashton Casting was formed in 1998 when she commenced working with all the major networks and her mastery of comedy excelled with notable live-action projects including the revival of Will & Grace, 2 Broke Girls, Mid-Century Modern, Psych, Wrecked, The Mick, MADtv, Great News, and the iconic improv series Reno 911!  Feature film casting credits include The Internship, The Rocker, Reno 911!: Miami, The Bob’s Burgers Movie, and she executive produced the documentaries  Method to the Madness of Jerry Lewis and Goodnight, We Love You: The Life & Legend of Phyllis Diller. 

In animation, Julie is the casting director behind numerous series including modern classics such as Bob's Burgers, Big Mouth, The Great North, F is for Family, Everybody Still Hates Chris, Lil Kev, Grimsburg, Hit-Monkey, Exploding Kittens, The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, Human Resources, as well as Mike Judge’s Beavis & Butthead, The Ren & Stimpy Show, and the upcoming Ted animated series based on the film franchise. Julie currently resides in Los Angeles.
